The other week me and my friends came across one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet!
We decided to go out for lunch as we hadn’t seen each other for a while, and we all happened to be free (for once).. well I say all, 1 out of the 4 wasn’t! Life always gets in the way when your older doesn’t it!
We chose to just go to one of the local Hungry Horse places, as they are child friendly.. and cheap and cheerful! We weren’t quite expecting it to be so cheap, and such a heartwarming experience.
We found a booth to sit down on and settled the 2 children we had with us. An older man came over and started to just have a little chat with us, where he left us with £1 each for both the children to go and get a toy from the machine. We were already touched by his kindness as it’s not often people do that anymore.
We continued to look at the menu and arguing over what we wanted, because we were all hungry and seemed to want everything on the menu! The man came back over and started to chat. He recommended some of the meals to us.. He then said to us have you heard of RAK? We all looked pretty confused and replied with No. he said it was a random act of kindness, to which we all began to nod! He replied with oh great because I’m going to pay for all your meals. We had an argument over and told him he didn’t have to do that, but he INSISTED. The food came and we couldn’t thank him enough!
As we were coming to the end of our meals he came to see how we got on. We told him it was amazing and we really appreciated it. He said to us ‘oh great because pudding is on its way’. We all looked slightly confused and just kind of laughed and smiled. About 5 minutes later the lady came with dessert and said it’s all been paid for by the guy in the table behind us. He just came over and smiled, and had a nice chat with us whilst we all enjoyed our pudding.
We finally finished, and were absolutely stuffed! He said he hopes we weren’t leaving yet as there was something else on route.. if you can imagine our confused faces with the desserts.. double the confusion here!! We were thinking what was possibly left to arrive. After about 10 minutes the man came back and gave us all a bunch of roses each. He had sent his friend to the shop to get them for us! We all laughed and said how our partners aren’t even this nice to us!! He said he feels women deserve to be treated, especially mothers and he wanted them to feel appreciated. He said how on Mother’s Day in the same pub he paid for some mother’s meals who were with their kids without their partners there!! How amazing is that.. we honestly could not believe what we were hearing and how kind this man was. As we finally packed up and left he then gave us all £10 each to go and treat ourselves. Obviously we told him he really didn’t need to and tried to give it back. He had done more than enough for us! But he INSISTED! He would not let us leave without it.
We tried to put some money together to treat him to a few drinks, but again he refused this. He said he did not do all of this for anything in return, he just wanted to give!
The reason I decided to write a blog sharing this experience is because I feel now it is so easy for us to focus on the negatives in this world. Let’s be honest, it’s the majority of what we hear now. How much of an awful place this world can be at times. This day, right here reminded me how we really do live in an amazing place, with some truly amazing people. He honestly touched the hearts of us all! He made us fill up, laugh and smile! I feel we need to focus on the positives more.. and give where we can. You honestly don’t know what you might have just done for someone that day.
My mission is now to give back and to do a random act of kindness. I don’t know what yet, but he has inspired me. It doesn’t have to be anything big.. but it really could make someone’s day!
I would like you all to try and do something for someone as well! Or share your story of where someone did something kind for you.. so we can all remind ourselves how lucky we are, and how we are surrounded by some amazing people.
